We all have that one friend who we adore, and just want everything to go right for.
Those friends are normally the ones you do crazy things with when you are young, and the friends you can count on to both laugh and cry with you without even a second thought. For me, that friend was Alexa. We met in high school, and she was wild and free; the best kind of friend to have. I watched her go through several boyfriends who weren’t deserving of her time, and I watched her fight to find her worth for a long time. Let me tell you, that all changed when she met Matt.
Matt was just the guy she needed. He knows her crazy, and loves all of the qualities that made us fall in love with her as a friend. So when Matt sent me a text one afternoon asking if I could keep a secret I immediately burst into tears (mind you pregnancy hormones did not help). It was finally happening for her, and she deserved the best proposal we could think of.
We decided on a creek in Wickenburg, AZ. The plan was to tell Alexa I was submitting some photos to a magazine and that we needed to do couples photos ASAP. We told her to buy a new dress, Matt made sure her nails were done, and on that Saturday afternoon we made our way to the creek. When we got to the creek I made sure to prepare some fun games for posing, and eventually we got to the moment where Matt was going to make the big move!
With Alexa facing me I had Matt walk up behind her to whisper something sweet into her ear, and instead she turned around to the man of her dreams down on one knee with a ring box. It was beautiful! She was crying, she said yes, and then we realized the ring was not in the box! Yes, you read that right. The ring had fallen into the creek without any of us noticing.
We spent hours looking for this ring, and were not able to locate it. After leaving the session I could just feel their sadness on what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.
Their families ended up pulling together the next day and went back to the creek with metal detectors and shovels, and after a few hours they actually found the ring! I know, I am as surprised as you are. It was still in perfect condition, and Matt even got to propose with the family there for the second time. Talk about fate!
If there were ever two people more deserving of eternal love and happiness, its these two. Congratulations Matt and Alexa, cannot wait to watch y’all get married next year!
